ABOUT

Emma Blanc is a Boston-based saxophonist, vocalist, and composer, whose music doesn't fit into a single genre, but tends to fall under the umbrella of jazz fusion with strong rock and R&B influences. They are a highly collaborative musician who thrives off of engaging and connecting with others, and who strives to create music that is both interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Blanc is currently working on their debut EP Resection, which will release on January 9th, a collection of music that documents their journey with chronic pain over the past four years and how it has impacted them as an artist and as a person. Blanc hopes the themes in their music will resonate with a larger audience and foster a community of people who have gone through similar situations.

Another of Blanc's recent projects was the December 2024 debut release from their band Lenny's Funk Club, entitled Day Of, which Blanc not only performed on but also helped to compose and arrange all of the tracks. Blanc also played saxophone on the EP and accompanying short film “Swollen” by the artist Dejima, which was released in April of 2024.

Blanc was a founding member and leader of local brass band Band Land Brass Band, who played at both the Somerville and Providence Honk! Festivals for multiple years. Blanc has played and worked with renowned jazz musicians such as Dave Holland, Jason Moran, and Henrique Eisenmann. International credits include performing at the Panama Jazz Festival in 2020.

Blanc got their musical start from a young age taking piano lessons with Gill Aharon at The Lilypad in their hometown of Cambridge, Massachusetts. They took up the saxophone in middle school, then began studying with jazz saxophonist Brett Walberg and playing in ensembles under the direction of jazz drummer Guillermo Nojechowicz in high school. Blanc has remained friends and collaborators of all these incredible mentors through the years. Currently attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Blanc has been under the tutelage of notable jazz musicians Donny McCaslin, Melissa Aldana, Jerry Bergonzi, Kalia Vandever, Jason Moran, Dominique Eade, and Mark Zaleski.
